WOW!! The churches in the Purchase District are doing some wonderful ministries in their communities. The second annual Laity in Action Celebration was held on Oct. 16, 2016 at the District Office. We had representatives from seven (7) churches speak about their community outreach ministries that ranged from establishing a clothes closet that has reached far beyond the boundaries of their community, to filling backpacks for school children, to food pantries, building ramps, and sewing clothing for children in need.

The District Laity Team would like to thank Coldwater United Methodist Church (UMC), Russell Chapel UMC, Oakland UMC, Mt. Carmel UMC, Murray First UMC, Calvert City UMC, and Grace UMC for graciously agreeing to share their ministries and to connect and share with others who might be interested in doing similar ministries. Information about the Purchase District Project Christmas House and the Clinton area’s Mission House was also shared. Rev. Jamie Lee, pastor of Grace UMC, gave a powerful talk about Radical Hospitality which challenged all of us to be aware of people around us every day who might be in need of a friendly face. We ended our day with Holy Communion and Sending Forth to help make disciples of Jesus, one neighborhood at a time.

Thank you to all members of the District Laity Team for their hard work in planning and helping to make this event a success. Also, a special Thank You to Mrs. Tane Alexander, member of Brooks Chapel UMC, for making the beautiful balloon bouquets that made our tables very festive.

In Christian Love,

Dianna Colson
District Lay Leader
