Dr. Robert “Rob” D. Martin began his position as Purchase District Superintendent mid-June of 2017. Martin has served as the senior pastor of Paris First United Methodist Church in Paris, Tennessee, since 2009. A graduate of Southern Methodist University’s Perkins School of Theology (master of divinity) and Wesley Theological Seminary (doctor of ministry), he began his ministry in the former Missouri East Conference of The United Methodist Church and transferred to the Memphis Conference in 1992.
Prior to his current appointment, Martin served as associate pastor at St. John’s and St. Luke’s United Methodist Churches in Memphis, Tennessee, and as the founding pastor of Faith United Methodist Church in Oakland, Tennessee.
In addition, Martin served as chair of the Conference Relations Committee of the Board of Ordained Ministry, secretary of the Tennessee River District Committee on Ministry and as a member of the Tennessee River District Operational Team. He has served terms as a trustee for Reelfoot Rural Ministries, an agency of the Memphis Conference, and Methodist LeBonheur Hospital-Fayette, and has also chaired the Sexual Misconduct Response Team for the Memphis Conference. He will serve as a delegate to the 2020 General Conference of The United Methodist Church.
Martin is married to Amy and they have two daughters, Brittany and Ashley, who attend Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee.
